I have devoured it in 2 days as the book was well structured and very clear.. I was so pleased to share similar thoughts and analysis, although at my humble level. For me it is essential to strike a harmonious W<\/i><i>2<\/i><i>-being (W<\/i><i>2<\/i><i> = Well and Whole). My personal believe is that we cannot be well if we are not \u201cwholly\u201d well . For me there are 2 levels of the \u201cwholeness\u201d, the whole self and it\u2019s inter-relationship with the outside, the bigger whole. As Plato has put it : \u201cThe part cannot be well unless the whole is well\u201d. <\/i><\/li>\r\n \t<li><i>According<\/i><i> to the book, the <\/i><i>journey<\/i> <i>from<\/i><i> \u201cme\u201d to \u201c<\/i><i>we<\/i><i>\u201d as leaders transition <\/i><i>from<\/i><i> an ego-system to an <\/i><i>eco<\/i><i>-system model has <\/i><i>three<\/i> <i>facets<\/i><i> : the <\/i><i>first <\/i><i>is<\/i> <i>relating<\/i><i> to <\/i><i>others<\/i><i>; the <\/i><i>second <\/i><i>is<\/i> <i>relating<\/i><i> to the <\/i><i>self and the <\/i><i>third<\/i> <i>is<\/i> <i>relating<\/i><i> to the system as a <\/i><i>whole<\/i><i>. <\/i><\/li>\r\n \t<li><i>To <\/i><i>lead <\/i><i>from<\/i><i> the <\/i><i>emerging<\/i><i> future, <\/i><i>Scharmer<\/i><i> and <\/i><i>Kaufer<\/i> <i>suggested<\/i> <i>that<\/i><i> leaders <\/i><i>need<\/i><i> to \u00ab let go \u00bb <\/i><i>of the <\/i><i>past<\/i><i> in <\/i><i>order<\/i><i> to <\/i><i>learn<\/i> <i>from<\/i><i> and <\/i><i>connect<\/i> <i>with<\/i><i> the <\/i><i>possibilities<\/i><i> of the <\/i><i>future (\u00ab let come \u00bb). <\/i><i>This <\/i><i>is<\/i> <i>known<\/i><i> as <\/i><i>presencing<\/i><i>, <\/i><i>which<\/i> <i>is<\/i><i> \u201ca <\/i><i>blended<\/i><i> world <\/i><i>combining<\/i> <i>sensing<\/i><i> (feeling the future <\/i><i>possibility<\/i><i>) and <\/i><i>presence<\/i><i> (the state of <\/i><i>being<\/i><i> in the <\/i><i>present<\/i><i> moment). It <\/i><i>means<\/i> <i>sensing<\/i><i> and <\/i><i>actualizing<\/i> <i>one\u2019s<\/i> <i>highest<\/i><i> future <\/i><i>possibility<\/i><i>\u2014acting <\/i><i>from<\/i><i> the <\/i><i>presence<\/i><i> of <\/i><i>what<\/i> <i>is<\/i> <i>wanting<\/i><i> to <\/i><i>emerge<\/i><i>.\u201d\r\n<\/i><\/li>\r\n \t<li><i>Throughout<\/i> <i>the book, <\/i><i>Scharmer<\/i><i> and <\/i><i>Kaufer<\/i> <i>attempted<\/i> <i>to <\/i><i>answer<\/i> <i>three<\/i> <i>fundamental<\/i><i> questions: in the face of disruption, how do <\/i><i>we<\/i><i> lead <\/i><i>from<\/i><i> the <\/i><i>emerging<\/i><i> future? <\/i><i>What<\/i> <i>evolutionary<\/i> <i>economic<\/i> <i>framework<\/i> <i>can<\/i><i> guide <\/i><i>our<\/i> <i>journey<\/i> <i>forward<\/i><i>? <\/i><i>What<\/i> <i>strategies<\/i> <i>can<\/i><i> help us to <\/i><i>function<\/i><i> as <\/i><i>vehicles<\/i><i> for <\/i><i>shifting<\/i><i> the <\/i><i>whole<\/i><i>? In <\/i><i>doing<\/i> <i>so<\/i><i>, <\/i><i>they<\/i> <i>address<\/i><i> the <\/i><i>blind<\/i><i> spot in <\/i><i>today\u2019s<\/i><i> global <\/i><i>discourse<\/i><i>, <\/i><i>specifically<\/i><i> how to <\/i><i>approach<\/i><i> the disruptions <\/i><i>from<\/i><i> a place of <\/i><i>connection<\/i> <i>rather<\/i> <i>than<\/i><i> as a <\/i><i>reaction<\/i><i>.<\/i><\/li>\r\n \t<li><i>I <\/i><i>enjoy<\/i> <i>reading<\/i> <i>this<\/i><i> book, <\/i><i>it<\/i> <i>was<\/i> <i>like<\/i><i> a time <\/i><i>journey<\/i><i>. I <\/i><i>hope<\/i> <i>that<\/i> <i>this<\/i><i> book <\/i><i>will<\/i><i> inspire more leaders and <\/i><i>hence<\/i> <i>contribute<\/i><i> to <\/i><i>meaningful<\/i> <i>societal<\/i><i> changes. <\/i><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<u><b>About the authors<\/b><\/u>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Dr. Otto Scharmer, author of Theory U and co-author of Presence, is a senior lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the founding chair of the Presencing Institute. He also is faculty chair of MIT\u2019s IDEAS program and a visiting professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing. In 2012 he co-founded the Global Well-Being and Gross National Happiness (GNH) Lab, which links innovators from Bhutan, India, China, Brazil, Europe, and the United States in order to prototype profound innovations in government, business, education, and civil society. He has worked with governments, UN organizations, companies, and NGOs in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe, and he has delivered award-winning leadership and innovation programs for clients including Alibaba, Daimler, Eileen Fisher, Fujitsu, Google, Natura, and PriceWaterhouse. Scharmer is currently a vice-chair of the World Economic Forum\u2019s Global Agenda Council on New Leadership Models. He holds a PhD in economics and management from Witten-Herdecke University in Germany. He lives with his family in the Boston area. Her research focuses on leadership, social transformation, and socially responsible banking. She has consulted with midsized and global companies, nonprofit organizations, the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. She currently works with the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, a network of twenty financial institutions that focus on relinking finance with a shared intention for positive social change. She also co-developed the Global Classroom concept at the Presencing Institute, an online learning platform that links live-streamed virtual classroom interaction with small-group dialogue and local action. Kaufer earned her MBA and PhD from Witten-Herdecke University in Germany. Her dissertation focused on socially responsible banking. She lives with her family in the Boston area.
